HP recently launched the refreshed Pavilion series that feature a very attractive design and latest Intel Core i-series and AMD processors. The HP Pavilion dv6-3085ea is a new addition to the 15.6 inch dv6 series that along the sleek brown design also brings a 1.6 GHz MD Phenom II P920 quad core processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM and 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 dedicated graphics that according to test carried out by Cnet deliver PCMark05 score of 5,244 and 3DMark06 score of 6,809 which isn’t all that bad and will run latest games without any problems if you turn the quality settings down a bit all for under £730. It’s not all great though as we have come to expect from AMD platforms the battery life isn’t impressive so if you are after long battery life you will have to look for a different model featuring one of Intel’s Core i-series.

It’s good to finally see more and more manufacturers embracing AMD processors as they are marginally cheaper then Intel processors. They are slower and more power hungry but not everyone need top-notch performance in their notebook. Sebastian Jentsch at NotebookCheck posted a review on the Samsung P530 Pro 15.6 inch Notebook. His verdict was that the Samsung P530 Pro is a solid and durable 15.6 inch notebook.  It features a good laid out keyboard, low heat and noise emissions and an Intel Core i3 processor which isn’t as fast as the Core i5 and i7 processors featuring TurboBoost but is completely adequate. There are some drawbacks such as low capacity battery (4,000 mAh) which produces just enough juice for about 3 hours of general use and lack of dedicated graphics.

Quad-core processor packing notebooks and the term ‘cheap’ are usually not mentioned in one sentence. With launch of Acer Aspire 5553G that might change as unlike the Acer Aspire 5551 notebook that features a triple-core AMD Phenom the Aspire 5553G features a quad-core AMD Phenom II X4 N930 clocked at 2.0GHz all for under £700 and that’s not all as it also features ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 switchable graphics. Guys over at NotebookCheck just reviewed another mobile workstation from HP the HP EliteBook 8540p 15.6 inch Notebook. Their verdict was that when compared to HP EliteBook 8540w the EliteBook 8540p offers less features and performance but that doesn’t mean it will not get the job done. Just yesterday Dell launched the new Dell Inspiron 15R line-up and TechRadar already got full review today. Their verdict was that Dell Inspiron 15R is a offers great value. There are some concerns about it such as poor sound quality from the integrated speakers and loud cooling fan but they are outweighted by a very affordable price and very good performance.
